"Not Me!" Monday

I found MckMama about midweek (last week). As I was reading some of her posts I discovered, "Not Me!" Monday. It sounded like LOTS of fun, so I thought I'd join in today. I've been pondering what exactly I'd write about... I HOPED it'd be lighthearted and FUN! Well, we had a little episode here this morning and I decided to share it instead. (You may find humor as you discover how "batty" I truly am.. HA! Oh, and the "Not Me!" will begin towards the end of this post.. Please remember this IS my first post so if I'm doing it COMPLETELY wrong, you'll overlook me?) O:-)

Okay, so as most of know you know, we lost our oldest son Brent a little over a year and a half ago to cancer. (You can read about it on my sidebar if you haven't heard our story)

ANYWAY.. Our 10 year old NOW holds the role of "big brother." (Well, kinda.. that's sort of where today's story begins) Zach IS the older of the younger two, but today we found out he's no longer "the biggest."

Gabe (Our 7 year old) asked me to measure him to see if he'd grown any. Well, he had, and he'd grown A LOT! Zach then decided he wanted to be measured. He was NOT happy to learn that Gabe is now almost a half inch taller. (He actually cried - remember, there is a THREE year age difference)

So I texted my sister and she called me back and advised me to share the story of Samuel anointing David as king. Let me share it with you....

1 Samuel 16:1-12 (New Living Translation)

Samuel Anoints David as King

1 Now the Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.”
2 But Samuel asked, “How can I do that? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.”

“Take a heifer with you,” the Lord replied, “and say that you have come to make a sacrifice to the Lord. 3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you which of his sons to anoint for me.”

4 So Samuel did as the Lord instructed. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town came trembling to meet him. “What’s wrong?” they asked. “Do you come in peace?”

5 “Yes,” Samuel replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Purify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then Samuel performed the purification rite for Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice, too.

6 When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord’s anointed!”

7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

8 Then Jesse told his son Abinadab to step forward and walk in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “This is not the one the Lord has chosen.” 9 Next Jesse summoned Shimea,[a] but Samuel said, “Neither is this the one the Lord has chosen.” 10 In the same way all seven of Jesse’s sons were presented to Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen any of these.” 11 Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?”

“There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.”

“Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”

12 So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes.

And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him
.”

Okay, so this is where the "Not Me" begins....

"No, I didn't cry ALL THE WAY through my SISTER reading this story to me over the phone.. NOT ME! (I'm not THAT emotional today)

"I didn't cry AGAIN as I read it to Zach while looking into HIS beautiful eyes.. (TRYING to explain that GOD is looking at HIS heart also) Not Me! (I mean, I'm not hopelessly EMOTIONAL TODAY)

I also didn't SOB like a baby when I watched this video..

Nope, NOT ME! (Wait! Yes, I am THAT emotional.. I just hope my mood swings don't switch over from being a crybaby today to being SHORT TEMPERED with my loved ones!) NOT ME, I'm NEVER like THAT!

O:-)

(Oh, and if you see us out somewhere, please DON'T mention to Zach that I told you about this??)

If you want to see how "Not Me!" Monday is REALLY supposed to work, stop by, "MckMama's" and see what she has to say!

I don't usually respond to comments in the comment section (I'd NORMALLY visit your blogs and comment there, but since this one is anonymous I will) =-)

I just wanted to say that I've not been to the blog you mentioned but I'll go there right now to visit.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to comment and to direct me to a place you feel will bless us.

You did a great job on your "Not Me! Monday"...what a morning you had! It may be that Zach just hasn't had his growth spurt yet, or it could possibly be that Gabe will end up taller. That happened with my two boys. Our oldest is 5'10" and about 185 lbs., our "baby" is 6'4"-6'5" and weighs 250 lbs.!!! Your boys will adjust, and they won't even think about the height difference. As the older women in our church remind me (constantly, it seems), "This, too, shall pass."

Loved the video (I'm emotional, too!)

Blessings...

Tonya,

Thank you so much for your sweet comments on my sites. I'm sorry that you had to search it out to get more information... I need to really update my blog with the kind of info. that other NB parents would want to find readily. We used to have NB in the header, but after Ellie died, we changed the blog a bit and forgot to keep that part. Anyway... we are a work in progress. :-)

I am so glad that you were led to my blog! I would love to keep up with yours. It is so comforting to find someone else like us, even though I am sorry that you have had to walk this road. I'm sure that you have found, as we have, that as terrible as it is to lose a child, it's nothing compared to grieving without hope. I would not even want to consider how horrible that would be! I am so glad that you also have the grace of God to uphold you.

If you ever want to "talk" away from our blogs, my email is: seskees@hotmail.com

With great sympathy for your journey and admiration for your testimony through it all,

Sarah

Welcome to Not Me Monday - isn't it a blast!! I remember the day my older brother and I were the same height (he cried too...I am his LITTLE sister)...well he made up for it - on a tall day I am 5'3" and on a short day he is 6 feet.

MY boys are two years apart at 9 and 7. My 7 year old recently passed his brother up as well. He has weighed more since they were about 3 and 5! It was tough for my oldest as well. We talk a lot about God creating each of us for a unique purpose and that God does not make mistakes. He is learning to take it in stride.

Thanks for sharing this. My oldest is 3 1/2 years older than my middle daughter and she is only 1 size different than her. It really irks her. Lots of people comment about how small she is. It always irritates me when they do knowing how upset it makes her. I will share this story with her and all my children. Beautiful!

OK, now this DID NOT make me all teary eyed.

And I'm not missing my dearest friend REALLY BAD.

The story about your son didn't get me, (especially when I'm dealing with similar issues over here with Joel and Jordan!)

Man, there are just so many things I'm NOT DOING these days either!!

Love you girlfriend, GREAT post!!
