Welcome to my corner of The Ultimate Blog Party!

Ultimate Blog Party 2008

In taking part of "The Ultimate Blog Party" I thought I'd keep it short and sweet since so many ladies will be doing lots of "blog hopping." I wanted to start out by sharing a video that just CRACKED me UP the first time I saw it! I think it's the expressions on their faces that get me. At any rate.. You'll now know that I have a really weird sense of humor. LOL! (I always like to apologize when posting anything from youtube since I never know what advertisements will "pop up." So, you might wanna scroll down QUICKLY as soon as the video stops)

Now, I'd like to end with a yummy recipe. If you're here and have followed our son's caringbridge site for any length of time you may have already seen it. It was Brent's FAVORITE bread. I hope you enjoy...

~ Sweet Potato Bread ~

3 1/2 cups sugar, 2 tsp. vanilla, 1 cup vegetable oil, 2 cups of cooked and mashed sweet potatoes, 4 eggs, 3 1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp salt, 2 tsp. cinnamon, 1 cup of chopped nuts if desired (I use 2 cups pecans)

Combine sugar, vanilla, oil, potatoes and eggs, mix well. Add remaining ingredients. Mix well and pour into 4 greased 1 pound coffee cans, or 4 loaf pans. Bake at 350 for 1 hour or when a toothpick comes out clean. The mixture nearly doubles in size, be careful not to get baking pans too full. I never fill the baking dish more than 3/4 full and a little less wouldn't hurt : )

Tonya,

I am so blessed to be able to stop by and visit you during your Blog Party!

I watched the video and just about died laughing...hysertical! I love it!

I think we have that same sense of humor...life is too hard not to laugh some times, isn't it?

I read your short side bar story about Brett and my heart breaks for you, but as your sister in Christ I know that you have a peace that you will see Brett again.

I want to share with you a bit of just how much I can relate to you...My oldest son Nick (who was 11 at the time) woke up one morning before school having full blown grand mal seizures (never sick a day in his life other than colds, no broken bones, no injuries). We had him airlifted to the nearest children's hospital (Joe DiMaggio in Hollywood, FL) and spent the next 51 days in the PICU where he almost died 3 times. His pediatric surgeon has told us numerous times that there is no "earthly" reason he should be alive, and yet as believers we know why. His life is back to normal, well a new normal, and as a result of all the trauma and trials of everything he went through (Pancreatitis at 11) he is diabetic and will be insulin dependant his whole life.

I love that you and I both know that no matter how it would have turned out that we both would give God all the glory either way.

It is such a blessing to meet you!

Take Care,
Melissa

i was very moved, too, by your testimony, and the courage your son exhibited. i have a very soft spot for st. jude-- i practically grew up there, tho never as a patient; my mom works there, so i've bene exposed to numerous stories of survival and loss... i'm so glad to have met you, and am always amazed by women who struggle thru so much who still hold on to their faith...

Hi Tonya,
The video cracked me up. Great to "meet" you. I am so sorry for your loss. I have seen both sides of what loss can do to your relationship with God, and sister, you stayed on the right side!
Loved your blog and your boys are very handsome!

Thank you for stopping by my site. I'm so sorry to hear about your son. He is definitely with Jesus and in His arms--one of the many benefits of being young when he passed. He is in the Kingdom of God. What a blessing. I'm so glad to hear that you have a Hope in Jesus Christ. I'm sure it hurts so much, though. That pain I don't know if it will ever pass... like you saw I lost my brother... but he was 21 and was not a believer in the Lord and that's what hurts the worst. I know that everyone must die some time, but the violent way he left plus the fact he didn't believe... that's what hurts... Anyhow. I just wanted to let you know that the Lord sees your faithfulness and you are being blessed for it.

God bless
Sarah

Thank you for stopping by my site. I'm so sorry to hear about your son. The good thing is that you know that he is in the arms of the Lord. I don't have that same assurance with my brother, but I pray that he did ask for forgiveness in his last breath. Your son is surely in the Kingdom of God!
Thank you again!
God bless you.
Sarah

I love the title of your blog. Isn't it nice to know that we are safe in His arms? Thanks for having me in your home/blog. I'd love to have you stop by my place.

i'm not sure that y'all would have crossed my mom's path. she works in public relations, but i do know that she is the first person many people talk to when they are finding out whether st jude can take the patient or not. at least a few years ago that was in her job description. i'm very sad to say that she and i are sailing some rough waters now, so i don't know as much about her life as i used to. but st jude is still an amazing place... and you are so right, there are just wonderful wonderful people there. that is very cute how your son would "pretend" to be sick so he could go back!
