Soapbox Sunday

Hello Friends...

I'm slacking on our new meme AGAIN. This week has been quite hectic and for the past few days I've just not been myself. With all of that said, I don't feel like thinking too much tonight. (LOL!! Sad, I KNOW!) I thought maybe this "SS" could just be light and fun??

SOOOOOO... My soapbox will be me, preaching to myself.

Our story begins with my Mom asking me if I had my hummingbird feeders out yet. She told me they were already swarming around hers. Well, I brought mine in, then cleaned and filled it. Our 7 year old (Gabe) was obviously drooling as I made the "juice."

Well, the boys had been working hard outside and I thought I'd bless them with some Kool-Aid. When Gabe first saw it, he exclaimed, "Look, Zach, Mom made us some hummingbird juice!" Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The moral of the story is... I'm OBVIOUSLY failing my job as Mom if my children don't even know what that sweet, fruity drink is! Image hosting by TinyPic HA!!

My point is this... I get so concerned with so many things that I sometimes forget GOD'S FIRST calling on my life is to be the keeper of my home. YES, I'm ABSOLUTELY to put HIM first in all I do... but the Bible CLEARLY tells me to be love my husband and children, to be busy at home, and to be subject to my hubby. (Among other things)

Titus 2:4-5

4Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

Okay, I'm not REALLY beating myself up over a drink for my kiddos, but there is a lesson to be learned. I do need to stop and make sure that EVERYTHING I'm doing HERE is what GOD wants and not necessarily what I want. (It's so easy to feel overwhelmed at times and neglect the people I love most)

I ESPECIALLY want our babes to have wonderful memories of their time as children at home. If I'm failing to do the job GOD has called me to do, then I'm failing two of the most important little people in my life. That's a lot from a glass of Kool-Aid, huh? Heehee... You should've heard the lesson I learned from our boys pet billy goat. HA!

I've been challenged by my friend e-mom to play a little game. So as requested, here are my answers...

You Are An Exclamation Point

You are a bundle of... well, something.

You're often a bundle of joy, passion, or drama.

You're loud, brash, and outgoing. If you think it, you say it.

Definitely not the quiet type, you really don't keep a lot to yourself.

You're lively and inspiring. People love to be around your energy.

(But they do secretly worry that you'll spill their secrets without even realizing it.)

You excel in: Public speaking

You get along best with: the Dash

Hi Tonya,
Ooops....I guess I didn't read very well to see that it was your sister-in-law who has the baby girl. I was thinking it was your sister.
It's nice that you have your families so close. My mom lives just two doors down from me and my oldest sister lives down the street! We love it!
Thanks for writing to Kristen. You're so sweet! & you're a wonderful mom...I just know you are. :)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Love,
Valerie

Well how funny...I guess my mom and I had the same thought 45 miles apart :)
I wanted to say thanks for posting on my blog..you are such a sweeheart! I also want to thank you for this blog!
As a wedding gift (a year and a half ago) I received the daily inspiration flip calander of "The Power of a Praying Wife" and the theme this month has been over this same type of topic...putting your husband (and his needs) above your own. Guess God is trying to tell me something because I've been hearing/ seeing this same theme everywhere! Thanks for the reminder!
Hope you have a great coming week! It was great to "meet" you!

I am a colon...not sure what to think about that. :)

I have been thinking a LOT about what you posted about putting our homes first. I really struggle with that, especially the keeping of the house balanced with the time with the kids. I really need to spend more time asking God what HE thinks rather than just doing all of the time.

Hey Girlfriend,

What's up? Guess what I was, hmmmm, hmmmm an exclamation mark too, now are you surprised?

Love you!

Hi Tonya,
I am an exclamation mark too! I just did the "what kind of shoe are you?" quiz at my blog. I understand where you are coming from in this post. I was challenged earlier this year by the verse: Prov. 31:27~~She looks well to the ways of her household. I often have to remind myself that is my first calling and it deserves to be done with excellence. Unfortunately I usually fall short of excellence but that is when I am grateful for God's grace and the grace of my family!

Take it easy and don't worry about the Kool Aid, but you are in trouble if they don't know the Pillsbury Dough boy! LOL

Love,
Kelley

Tonya,
Well, I guess we can't be buds anymore! The test showed that I am a question mark and I best suited for commas! I wonder what they are like...I guess that they like to ANSWER questions! LOL!

Hummingbird Juice, haha! Your kids crack me up. Alex also has never had Kool-aid, but for a different reason. We try to steer clear of Red #40 or it is a BAD day. I lived off of Kool-Aid, but Alex probably won't.

I always appreciate your insights and this topic is no different.

Love You!
??Stephanie??

Hi Tonya,
I have just caught up on all of your posts! We were out of town for several days and I took a much needed computer break. :)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the pictures of Allie Grace! She is beautiful and truly a gift from God. Enjoy every minute with your new niece. How wonderful! We found out that the new little one in our family will be another BOY!! :) Looks like Allie will rule as the only princess for a while longer. We can't wait for this new little one, either, but he's not due till August.

My kids are right with your boys . . . we just don't drink Kool-Aid at our house so they probably don't know what it is either! But I grew up on Kool-Aid and sweet tea. I must be depriving them! :0)

Have a great week!
Love & FROG . . .

!!!guess who!!!!
HA...you know we are CALLED to be keepers at home...now question...why is it a BAD thing that your boys don't KNOW what kool~aid is....I actually think that it's COOL that they saw it as Hummingbird Juice...they are not victims of commercialism....see, JUST ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE...mine would not know kool aid either...so we fail together!
HA!!

I have a feeling that you are a FABULOUS mom!! just a hunch from one exclamation point to another!!

hugs!!
happy monday...
mine may not know kool aid, but they KNOW SWEET TEA..does that count!!??
