Then Sings My Soul Saturdays

The song I chose for today is by Chris Tomlin. I don't know the history of the song, but it appears it was written around the old hymn, "Amazing Grace." The source of the song (on YouTube) labeled it as a movie trailer. It's not as fast pace and upbeat as I'd normally like to listen to, but the message is so powerful that it quickly became one of our favorites.

Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
Chris Tomlin

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, Amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, Amazing grace

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, Amazing grace

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine

You are forever mine

Yes, I've shared with some of you (individually) that we used this song at Brent's funeral. It's SO MUCH his testimony... especially the part that says, "My chains are GONE, I've been set FREE." This is one of those songs I probably won't be able to hear again without thinking of our precious boy. He was SO IN LOVE with his JESUS, PRAISING HIM CONSTANTLY in his last days with us. I hope and pray our boys NEVER forget his powerful testimony! =-)

LOVE Chris Tomlin and LOVE this song!

It was indeed written for the movie Amazing Grace, the story of William Wilberforce. Chris Tomlin is so cute when he shares the story about being asked to write an addition to the song for the movie and how nerve-wracking that was...like being asked to paint a picture to hang in the Sistine Chapel or something. He definitely (with God's inspiration, of course!) rose to the occasion!

The movie's website is www.amazingracemovie.com

I can't hear this song without being choked with emotion and now I will always think of you and your family when I hear it. It is one I have told my family I want sung at my funeral. Sometimes I just long for that day when my chains fall to the ground and I can be in the presence of the Lord forever. Meanwhile, songs like this are an inspiration!! Thanks for sharing your heart today as always!

Love,
Kelley

Chris Tomlin makes this classic hymn so fresh! My husband says it's his alltime favorite, and he MUST have it sung at his funeral, lol. I like the images in the video too.

I love this song! I love that Chris put "My chains are gone...I've been set free.."

How that speaks to all of us as Christians! No matter where we've come from, God has set us free.

Thanks for sharing.

Many blessings.

Hiya Woman!
I love this song and the hymn that it is based on. That was a beautiful tribute for an amazing little boy. He definitely was set free from pain forever, though I know you miss him dearly.

I hope your weekend is fun, even though it sounds busy. Does it include kissin' and huggin' on the famous Allie Grace??

I probably won't be participating in SS for awhile...I took on a Sunday School class of 3 yr olds and I have NO idea how to do it!

LOVE YOU!
Stephanie

Wow! I love that song! Thanks for sharing it!!! :D I'll have to try to listen again when my daughter isn't getting into things (AKA asleep!) :D

I've heard about women inducing lactation! Maybe I should make that my next fact. It's pretty cool to think that you could breastfeed an adopted child and have that same connection as you would have with a child you birthed (obviously you still would, bottlefed or not, but I mean that special bond created when you nurse a child. It's inexplicable.) :)

This is such a special song. We sing this version at our church. There is a wooden cross on the stage. When we sing this song, people are invited to come to the cross and hammer in a nail to symbolically represent a particular person you are praying for (for their salvation). People can also tie a little red ribbon on a nail, if they know someone who has become a Christian. It is so meaningful, especially while this song is being sung. I can never keep my eyes dry.
